Biography

Alfred H. Bool British, active 1870-1878; and John Bool British, active 1870-1908 Alfred Bool and his son John, principals of the London photography firm A. & J. Bool, are best known for their work for the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London. Along with the father-and-son team of Henry and T. J. Dixon, they were responsible for the society's photographic publication-numbering 124 images of historic architecture, often with commentary-which was produced in fascicles from 1875-86. The Bools produced only the first 24, photographed between 1875 and 1878. Throughout the 1870s they participated in the annual exhibitions of the Photographic Society of Great Britain. T.W.F.
