Biography

Landscape painter Alexander Joseph Daiwaille lived in Amsterdam until 1833 and was taught by his father, Jean Auguste Daiwaille (1786-1850), who directed the Amsterdam Academy from 1820 until 1826. After living in various cities in the Netherlands, Alexander Joseph settled in Cleve, Germany, from 1840 until 1848. There he worked with his brother-in-law, landscape painter Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803-1862), who had founded an academy. In 1849 Daiwaille moved to Brussels, where he remained for the rest of his life.
